I was kind of silly excited when Beyond Good and Evil creator Michel Ancel teased forward progress on the game’s long-awaited sequel, and I’ve been nervously watching as he’s dropped a few more hints that the game might actually be on the way. Now, mercifully, publisher Ubisoft has stepped forward to put us out of our misery and end his cruel teasing: the company confirmed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 really is in production.
Pre-production, to be specific, at least going by Ancel’s most recent tease, which showed off another bit of concept art.
“If you’ve been waiting for news about BG&E… well, here you go!” wrote the game’s official Facebook page a few hours ago, recognizing that none of us entirely trusted that Ancel wasn’t just toying with our feelings. “We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.”
And that’s basically all we know. The game was first teased in a trailer back in 2008, which is so long ago I don’t want to think about it, and from the sounds of things Ancel and his team are working on it again from scratch. Now we’re just back to waiting again — or re-playing the original, which in not-un-coincidental timing will be free on PC for a month from next week through the Ubisoft Club program, free to anyone with a Uplay account.
