Hollywood industry paper Variety has today confirmed what we all suspected: Jake Gyllenhaal is a committed masochist. Apparently the star enjoyed the critical and commercial drubbing of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time so much that he’s back for more. He can’t help it guys, he was born this way, but we all just need to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn’t hurt himself too bad.

He’s apparently attached to both star in and produce a movie based on Ubisoft’s The Division, which makes sense because The Division made a boatload of money, but also makes no sense at all because that success had nothing to do with its bare-bones setting or plot. It also seems like a spot of bad timing as everyone gears up to talk about how Warcraft is the latest in a long line of game-to-cinema failures, but then everyone seems to like Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed trailer, so maybe they’ve got this shit figured out. Either way, there’s no director or even writer attached yet, so it’ll be a while before we get to watch Gyllenhaal dividing away (or whatever it is you do in The Division, I kinda missed that one).
