Bad news today if you’re a corporation looking to attract some of that sweet, sweet gamer dollar: Mojang has announced that it will no longer permit companies and other organizations to use the game for their advertising.

The new rules ban any “ad agency, corporation, non-profit, or politician” from building a mod or server “that promotes unrelated products in playable form.” That means no more maps based on movies, or functional in-game smartphones (unless fans are behind them, that is), though it also means charities and non-profits can’t use Minecraft to promote exhibits or causes, which is maybe a bit more sad.
